Students will spend five weeks exploring many aspects of veterinary medicine in a hands-on, interactive way. All lessons will be taught at an age-appropriate level. Students should prepare for many special visitors AND unique activities! Our classes are perfect for all students who love animals, science and learning.
This session will run from the week of October 25th through the week of November 22nd.
***Please note - There will be no classes on November 25th & 26th for Thanksgiving (makeups will be December 2nd & 3rd)***
Check out this session’s class schedule:
Week 1: Blood: Did you know that not all blood is red? Some animals have blue, yellow, or purple blood! Students will learn about the similarities and differences in the blood of animals to that of our own, and learn about the components of human blood and make their own 3D blood model to bring home!
Week 2: Wellness Exams: Just like for humans, wellness exams and preventative care are a huge part of keeping pets healthy. Students will learn the basics of a veterinary wellness exam, and then perform them on our Vets in Training animals.
Week 3: **Residents, Interns, and Homeschool** Animal Testing
Our discussion of this complex issue includes medical uses for animal testing and new technological advancements in the field.
Week 4: **Residents, Interns, and Homeschool** Blood Draw Lab:
Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians must learn how to draw blood on their patients. Students will see and learn how to draw blood from animals in this interactive lab. **No real blood is used in this lesson.**
Week 5: Belugas: Students will learn about how these playful “canaries of the sea” use their melons to create the greatest variety of sounds of all whale species!
