Dates for session 1 classes will vary based on when we obtain AWA kittens.

Kitten Care - Vets in Training will be fostering kittens from AWA this spring.  Students will learn kitten care as well as help the team get these kittens ready, strong, and healthy for their new families.

How Veterinarians Help Animals - Students will get a birds eye view of everything vets do to keep animals healthy and safe.

Dentistry - This lesson gives kids the chance to discover exactly how veterinarians perform dental surgery on cats through this step by step interactive dental simulation activity.

Cytology -  Students will learn about the science of cytology and how it is used to diagnose ear infections in animals.

Case Studies - Veterinarians from HousePaws have shared their most interesting cases with us.  Students will work together to study an animals history, microscopic images, lab tests, and observe real samples taken from animals at the hospital to decide whats wrong with the pet and brainstorm what to do to help.

Session II Class Topics will include:

Orthopedic Pet Rehab - Physical rehabilitation therapy offers treatments to improve pet’s mobility, comfort, strength, and energy. Students will learn the various modalities that can be used to effectively manage pain.

Radiology - They ate what?  Students will investigate a series of x-ray images to determine what foreign object various animals have eaten.  We will discuss different methods of extraction and decided which procedure is right to help each pet.

Surgery Simulation - Dr Matt has kindly created a series of stuffed animals on which students can perform various surgeries.  These stuffed animals can be opened to reveal stuffed lifelike organs.  The Vets in Training team will lead the students through step by step procedures.

Urinalysis - Students will learn what urinalysis is, how doctors can diagnose health concerns based on collected samples, and will be able to create a urine crystal model of their own.

Wildlife Rehab - Students will discover the differences between how veterinarians help animals vs wildlife rehabilitation veterinarians.  Our wild animal friends must be released into the wild after treatment so special care must be taken to ensure their future survival.
