Week 1: All Creatures Great and Small: All hands on deck! This round floor discussion will allow the students to investigate, explore, and discover the individual animals of the learning center. There will be a few animal surprises!
Week 2: Restraint: Students will learn how and why veterinarian staff must restrain pets during exams and procedures. Students will have the opportunity to see how restraining an animal can actually help keep them calm and safe.
Week 3 Vet Tech Skills Lab: Students will discuss what skills a veterinary technician needs to assist a doctor on the road. We will discover the tools used in the vet tech’s travel kit.
Week 4: Nutrition: Students will learn about the nutritional needs of various animals. They will identify different foods and supplements that they can give to the animals. Students will observe and assist a live feed.
Week 5: Babies Babies Babies!!: Who can resist animal babies? This class will teach students about animal babies within the 5 most well-known animal classes of vertebrates including: mammals, amphibians, avian, reptiles, and fish.
Week 6: Careers in Animal Science: There are so many different careers to choose from when you are an animal lover and want to work closely with animals. Being a veterinarian is not your only option! We will discuss various positions in the animal world and do a resume writing / interview simulation activity.
Week 7: Differences and Similarities: Veterinarians need to know how to provide medical care for every type of animal. How can a vet treat both a cat and a lion? Today we will learn how that is possible by learning the difference and similarities between each animal.
Week 8: Interactive Case Studies: In this class, students are veterinarians! They will examine case studies from one of our own veterinarians and determine diagnoses and courses of action for these sick and injured patients at the vet hospital.
