Join us for one, two, or three classes in a row on any given day!

Each $15, 1-hour class includes a fun lesson and

animal interaction time with our friendly live animals!

 

Monday Nov 2

Morning Classes:

10-11am Marine Animals:  Do sharks dream of chasing other fish?  Do whales sneeze?  Who is the principal of a school of fish?  These and many other questions will be answered as we look at our animal friends in the deep blue ocean.

11am-12pm Planting for Pets:  Students will learn about the important role of plants in the lives of our animal friends. We will even do some planting ourselves!

12-1pm Pets and Pollution:  Students will explore the various ways pollution affects the pet we have any animals of the world as a whole. Students will learn how veterinarians use their skills to combat this problem.

Afternoon Classes:

Wednesday Nov 4th

10-11am Environmental Enrichment:  Today will learn how toys and environmental enrichment is crucial to the life of our animals.  Students will have the chance to interact with our animals and find ways to make their life more fun! 

11am-12pm Teddy Bear ClinicWho doesn’t like playing Doctor? Each student will bring their own teddy bear as we learn how to give a physical exam and take care of common ailments. Children will learn bandaging as well as use some common veterinary tools.

12-1pm  Poisons:  Did you know that many household items that can be unsafe for pets? Students will learn what items to avoid to keep their four-legged friends safe!

10-11am Animal Nutrition:  Pets are what they eat too. Today we will learn the ABCs of pet nutrition and how good nutrition helps animals stay healthy. Students will prepare menus for some of our rescue resident animals and learn just how different nutritional needs are for everybody.

11am-12pm Scoop on Poop:  We all know that everyone poops - but if you think all animal poop is the same you’re in for a big surprise! Learn about the differences between various animals poop and how they make it, and how veterinarians use fecal samples to diagnose illnesses in this fun and informative class!

12-1pm  Insect Investigation:  Insects are animals! And did you know there are more insects on the Earth than all other animals combined?! We will learn all about these not-so-creepy crawlies and talk about what makes them  different from you and me.

11am-12pm Microscopes 101:  Microscopes are invaluable tools to a veterinarian.  Students will learn about what microscopes are and what they do to assist veterinarians practice medicine.  Students will have the opportunity to use actual microscopes during this lesson.

12-1pm  Wildlife Encounter: What should you do if you find a baby bunny all alone? What’s the best thing to do if you come across a bird with a broken wing? Students will learn how to conduct themselves in the presence of wild animals.  Sick, injured, and healthy animals all react differently. Students will explore what they can do to keep wildlife safe.

10-11am Prehistoric vs. Modern Animals:  Are there still prehistoric animals alive today? Yes! Many animals that are alive today are descendants of prehistoric animals that roamed the earth millions of years ago! Students will learn about the prehistoric ancestors and their descendants and even make their own fossils!

11am-12pm Habitats and Responsible Pet Ownership:  Students will look at the world’s major habitats and understand why certain animals must have that environment.  Responsible pet ownership is very closely connected to an animal’s habitat—students will explore this connection.

12-1pm  Intro to Suturing: Surgery is an important skill for a veterinarian to master. Learning basic needle skills are essential to veterinary medicine. After practicing their suturing skills, VIT students will get the special opportunity to become surgeons and learn how to close mock surgery skills and wounds on our special teaching teddy bears! **This is a very appropriate lesson; no sharp objects will be used for this skills lab.**

11am-12pm Animal Life Cycles:  Life cycles are very exciting and different between species. In our activities, we will examine several different species’ life cycles which will have the student’s curiosities begging for more!

12-1pm  Ticks, Tweezers, and Prickly Things:  As veterinarians, we remove all kinds of things from patients. Veterinarians must learn to remove ticks, bot flies, and even prickly plants from their patients’ fur and skin. VIT students will learn to use their removal skills on simulated patients during this super fun and interactive lab class!

Afternoon Classes:

11am-12pm They Ate What? Radiology:  You would not believe the weird things that pets eat! Students will examine real x-rays and case studies and work together to answer the question….They ate what?!?

12-1pm  Carbon Footprint:  What is a carbon footprint? This is the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a particular person, group, etc.  Students will look at their carbon footprints and learn how they can do their part to help the environment.

10-11am Turkey Tales: With Thanksgiving this week -  let’s learn about this amazing bird and do a fun turkey craft too!

11am-12pm  Photography 101: It’s photo time. Learn the ins and outs of how to photograph pets through the eyes of a photographer. Learning how to properly compose your pictures is the name of the game to make interesting and fun photos!  Children will leave with Polaroid keepsakes!

12-1pm  Pet First Aid:  Learning about first aid for pets is so important. Students will learn small tricks of the trade to be prepared for small veterinary problems they might encounter at home. Students will make their very own home veterinary first aid kit!!
