Welcome to the Spring Session II 2021!

Students will spend five weeks exploring many aspects of veterinary medicine in a hands-on, interactive way. All lessons will be taught at an age-appropriate level. Students should prepare for many special visitors AND unique activities Our classes are perfect for all students, Pre-K through 6th grade, who love animals, science and learning. 

  This session will run from the week of May 10th through the week of June 7th. **Please note -There is no class on May 31st due to Memorial Day-makeup class will be on June 14th.**

Week 1: Raising Tadpoles: Students will witness the fascinating metamorphosis of a tadpole during their 5-week session. We will learn what it takes to grow a tadpole into a frog!

Week 2: Endangered Animals:  Students will learn what it means for a species to be endangered, how they become endangered, and what we can do to help!

Week 3: Environmental Enrichment : Toys and environmental enrichment is crucial to the life of our animals.  Students will have the chance to interact with our animals and find ways to make their lives more fun! 

Week 4: The Odd Octopus: One of the most intelligent animals on the planet, these creatures are capable of amazing things. Join us to learn about what an octopus can do with its cephalopod bod by doing fun, hands-on experiments!

Week 5: Cat Scavenger Hunt: Students will experience life as a cat as they follow the clues around our education center!

Schedule for Homeschool Half-Day Special Session: 

Home School Half Day Special: Ages 4-10 (Mondays or Wednesdays 10:00am-2:00pm)

Week 1: 

10:00-11:00  Raising Tadpoles: Students will witness the fascinating metamorphosis of a tadpole during their 5-week session. We will learn what it takes to grow a tadpole into a frog!

11:00-12:00 Scoop on Poop: We all know that everyone poops - but if you think all animal poop is the same you’re in for a big surprise! Learn about the differences between various animals poop and how they make it, and how veterinarians use fecal samples to diagnose illnesses in this fun and informative class!

12:00-1:00 Butterflies:  Did you know that the world’s smallest butterfly is the size of a child’s thumbnail? Or that some butterflies are poisonous? Students will gain a new understanding of these beautiful creatures, and create butterfly feeders to take home!

1:00-2:00 Lunch/Outdoor Play/Animal Fun Time

Week 2: 

10:00-11:00 Endangered Animals:  Students will learn what it means for a species to be endangered, how they become endangered, and what we can do to help!

11:00-12:00 Ocean Acidification: Students will learn first-hand why ocean acidification matters through a cool experiment!

12:00-1:00 Glowing Coral Reefs: Students will make their very own light-up coral reef to take home!

1:00-2:00 Lunch/Outdoor Play/Animal Fun Time

Week 3:

10:00-11:00 Environmental Enrichment:  Toys and environmental enrichment is crucial to the life of our animals.  Students will have the chance to interact with our animals and find ways to make their lives more fun! 

11:00-12:00 Owl Pellet Dissection:  Students will learn about the digestive system of an owl and other birds of prey through their pellets.  **No animals were harmed for this dissection lesson.**

12:00-1:00 Seed Bomb Making: Students will make beautiful seed bombs (from scratch!) that can be planted anywhere!

1:00-2:00 Lunch/Outdoor Play/Animal Fun Time

Week 4:

11:00-12:00 Oil Spill Experiment: Students will work together to determine what substances work best to clean-up an ocean oil spill. 

12:00-1:00 Sea Stars: Although commonly known as “star fish,” these are NOT fish! Students will learn about these deep sea creatures and even make their own sea stars to take home!

1:00-2:00 Lunch/Outdoor Play/Animal Fun Time

Week 5:

10:00-11:00 Cat Scavenger Hunt: Students will experience life as a cat as they follow the clues around our education center!

11:00-12:00 Worms! Worms! Worms!: LEt’s get dirty! Each student will dig through our habitat of happy worms and choose a live specimen to (gently) examine with a magnifying glass. We will learn about worm biology and their role in our ecosystem! 

12:00-1:00 Father’s Day Craft
