Session I will run the weeks of:

March 27th through the week of May 1st

Session II will run the weeks of:

May 15th through the week of June 12th

Session I Class Topics will include

Planting for pets: Students are often responsible for preparing salads for our VIT pets.  Now they will get those salads growing in the new Education Center Garden which will be the responsibility of our students to maintain and keep it growing so we will continue to have healthy salads for our pets.

Chick Incubation Process:  You guessed it!  We will be incubating chicken eggs right in the education center this spring!  We will learn all about this process and watch as the eggs hatch.  Students will continue to care for the baby chicks for most of the spring before they return to their home on the farm.

Life Cycles: Students will compare the life cycles of chickens they learned the previous week to the life cycles of other animals.

Babies, Babies, Babies:  Spring is a time for babies in the wild.  Students will learn to match baby animals with their parents in an interactive game.  We will study which animals are expecting this time of year, and how they will care for and protect their young in the wild.

Animal Behaviors:  Body language is an important way that animals communicate with us! Students will learn the meaning of different animal behaviors and the appropriate ways to react.

Session II Class Topics will include:

Marine Animals:  Students will learn about the diversity of the animals living in our oceans and what adaptations allow them to survive.

Ocean Acidification: Get ready for an awesome experiment on acids and bases.  We will study what ocean acidification means and why it matters for humans, marine life, and land animals!

Sea Turtles: Some sea turtles migrate for thousands of miles across entire oceans.  Leatherback turtles can dive almost one mile deep!  Learn many interesting facts about these amazing creatures and compare the features of our VIT Tortoise friends to their water loving counterparts in the ocean.

Peculiar Penguins: Lets take a nice spring day to study warm weather penguins.  Thats right!  Penguins do not only live in Antartica.  In fact only 3 of the 18 species of penguins are cold weather animals.

Sharks! : Students will learn about shark breeds, habits, and threats and even make some fun ocean slime!
