Session I Class Topics will include:
Skeletal System - Students will study different kinds of animal bones and skulls and do a fun craft which will demonstrate how animal spines are differnt from humans.
Muscular System - Discover how various animals have different muscles, giving them advantages for survival in different habitats.
Circulatory System - How does the heart work and how does it make blood flow all throughout the body? Studnts will learn all about bloodflow, veins, and arteries which is essential knowledge for a veterinarian to understand.
Nervous System - Learn all about how the brain controls the body and how nerves help animals feel and explore the world around them. We will also understand creatures who do not have such complex nervous systems and theoretically do not feel pain the same way other animals do.
Integumentary System - This is the part of the body which covers an animal. Skin is the largest organ on the human body. Students will learn all about skin, fur, scales, and so much more!
Session II Class Topics:
Session 2 Topics:
Body Systems: Now that students have a solid understanding of body systems covered in session 1, we will use our knowledge to create models of each system.
Blood Cells: Students will learn all about what is in blood and the various functions of each kind of cell. Activities include making our own blood cell slime!
DNA and Genetics: During this activity, students will take a look at their own unique characteristics which were passed down from parents to create a specific personal DNA strand bracelet.
Brain and Animal Communication: How do animals use their senses to communicate? Students will dig a little deeper into brain functions and nervous system to discover more about how animals communicate.
Zoonotic Diseases: Diseases that can spread from animals to humans often affect different body stems. We will discover how and why these systems are affected and how diseases spread.
