The Council for European Studies (CES) invites applications from highly motivated scholars to join the Research Editorial Committee or the Political Science Editorial Committee, of its flagship publication, EuropeNow, a monthly interdisciplinary journal that features research, commentary, interviews, and book reviews on Europe alongside literary nonfiction, fiction, poetry, translation, and visual art from or concerning Europe.

The Editorial Committees are responsible for curating and delivering content for the journal. They are comprised of promising young scholars or established scholars in any field in the humanities and social sciences. Committee members work with the Committee Chair and the Editors to provide content for the research and academic book review sections of the journal, as well as Editor’s Pick. For book reviews, Committee members select new and relevant books of interest to Europeanists and then commission relevant scholars to review the books. For research pieces, members can commission individual articles, interviews, conference write-ups, roundtables on topics of relevance to the study of Europe, or op-eds/critical commentary.

The type of individuals CES seeks must be self-motivated, dynamic, organized, excited about research in and outside their respective fields (ideally with an interdisciplinary slant), and able to engage with other scholars constructively and supportively.

Each Committee member serves a 1-year term, starting in November, with the possibility for renewal. Please note that CES expects at least 8-10 items per year, or 2-3 items per quarter (three-month period) per Committee member. This is a service position, and committee work is done remotely. Selection will be made as to ensure a suitable balance of expertise within the Committee. No prior editing experience is necessary and we encourage junior scholars who would like to get involved in editing or the publication process at large to apply.
