2020 NOMINATION FORM
Without doubt, the primary objective of any program leader is to create value for customer, the program team overall, and the business. The Aviation Week Network Program Excellence Initiative was created in 2005 to identify and share lessons learned and best practices that contribute to program execution.
Through the Program Excellence Awards, you can nominate a program or project that you believe to have met the challenge of executing a program in a manner that avoids firefighting and instead highly values the steady drumbeat of excellence and quality.
To nominate a program, you will need the name of the program, the program leader, her/his company or organization, and contact information for the individual. Following an initial review, the leaders will be invited to submit for the awards. Aviation Week Network will announce finalists September 1, 2020 and celebrate the finalists and winners during the 2020 DefenseChain Conference featuring the Program Excellence Awards Banquet.
Deadline for Submissions:
February 7, 2020

SPECIAL PROJECTS: Special Projects are one-time initiatives or research that would not necessarily lead to a sustained program of record. Past examples have included NASA single-point efforts such as L-Cross, re-engineering of production flow and processes, or development of systems to enable modeling/virtual reality.
OEM/PRIME CONTRACTOR SYSTEMS DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT: The nominee exhibits a major accomplishment in the system design and development stage of a program platform or free-standing capability, and most often integrates an array of systems that are integrated to achieve a given objective or capability. The intent is to identify best-in-class efforts in terms of reducing development cycle times, cost, utilization of new business models or alliances, stand up of a program value chain and establishment of processes and tools that further the work of a program team at this stage.
OEM/PRIME CONTRACTOR PRODUCTION: The nominee establishes a track record for efficient production and delivery of a product or service based on new processes, tools and capabilities to drive down the learning curve and achieve cost-effectiveness as quickly as possible for a defined program.
OEM/PRIME CONTRACTOR SUSTAINMENT: The nominee achieves defined post-delivery goals aligned with customer requirements and operational tempo. This would include upgrades, modifications, maintenance/repair/overhauls or other efforts that assure performance in service.
SUPPLIER SYSTEM DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT: The supplier nominee designs and develops systems or sub-systems intended to integrate with a larger array of systems. The intent is to identify best-in-class efforts in delivering capability on time, leveraging processes and tools, and assuring alignment with the broader customer/user requirements.
SUPPLIER SYSTEM PRODUCTION: The supplier establishes a track record for efficient production to meet defined quality, delivery, and production requirements in alignment with a program of record. This includes the ability to adapt to new materials and processes adopted by the prime contractor in a way that delivers value to customer as well as internally.
SUPPLIER SYSTEM SUSTAINMENT: The nominee achieves defined post-delivery goals aligned with customer requirements and operational tempo. This would include upgrades, modifications, overhauls or other efforts that assure the platform’s performance in service and on-going value and relevance to the business/organization.
