Docs In Progress Filmmaker-in-Residence Application

The Docs In Progress Filmmaker In Residence program provides facilities access to an experienced local or visiting documentary filmmaker at the Docs In Progress "Documentary House" in downtown Silver Spring, MD (just outside of Washington DC). The Filmmaker-in-Residence receives office/editing/meeting space, access to the Docs In Progress community and programs, as well as other resources in and around Washington DC, and an honorarium upon completion of the residency. In exchange, the Filmmaker in Residence teaches a workshop, serves as a mentor to Docs In Progress Fellows, and screens and discusses one of his/her films in a private event for Docs In Progress.
 
The deadline to apply is midnight on Monday, January 5, 2015. All applicants will be notified by January 15.

Commitment

Terms of Residency

Applications must be submitted via this form no later than midnight on January 5, 2015.
 
The selected Filmmaker-in-Residence is required to fulfill terms of residency between April and June 2015.
 
The Filmmaker-in-Residence commits to teaching a workshop of his/her own devising during the residency period. The workshop must be a minimum of three hours and take place on an evening or weekend which is mutually agreeable between the artist and Docs In Progress program staff.
 
The Filmmaker-in-Residence commits to serving as a mentor to Docs In Progress Fellows, including (a) being a special guest presenter at a Fellowship Cohort meeting on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, May 5, or June 2; and (b) holding two other small-group meetings with Fellows who want more specific feedback on their works-in-progress.
 
The Filmmaker-in-Residence commits to screening and discussing a prior work in a private fundraising event for Docs In Progress during the timeframe of the residency.
 
The Filmmaker-in-Residence commits to contributing a blog entry on a topic of mutual agreement.
 
The Filmmaker-in-Residence will receive honoraria at the conclusion of the residency ($1,000 for a 30-45 day residency, $2,000 for a 46-60 day residency, or $2,500 for a 61-90 day residency).
