Volunteering for athenspets.net is a serious commitment, and we are only interested in volunteers who are available and eager to work at least one day per month.  Your work would include a visit to Animal Control where you would walk and interact with each dog and take pictures and get information on every new canine arrival.  A shelter visit typically takes anywhere from 1 -2 hours depending on how many new dogs are available.  On the same day, you must choose a picture or two of each dog, write up a story detailing as much information as you can about the dog, and post this information on athenspets.net.   In total, you must be willing to devote anywhere from 3-5 hours total for each day you sign up to volunteer, and we require at least a monthly visit.  You will receive a training session (or two, if you prefer) prior to signing up for your first solo day.

If your schedule is too tight and you are unable to meet the above requirements, your volunteer services are still welcome and appreciated by the dogs! If you are only able to volunteer sporadically, the shelter always accepts dog walkers/bathers during their open shelter hours (which can be found on athenspets.net) .  You just show up when the shelter is open, interact with the dogs, give them potty breaks, take them treats, and love them!
